Dear Iowa Congress Member;

I am making a very difficult request of you. I am asking that each of you put aside your desire to get re-elected, your loyalty to your party and your concern about your political legacy. We are a country in crisis and this is the time to ACT!

Our current President, with the help of Elon Musk, is attempting to dismantle our orderly system of government agencies which protect and monitor our health and safety. This past two weeks the advisory committee called DOGE, has directed and Trump has implemented furloughing over 400,000 federal workers. Their reason is simple…they feel these programs are ineffective, fraudulent and far too expensive. Its unfortunate that DOGE employees had less than one month to study these complex issues before they suggested these drastic cuts! Some of the agencies now in turmoil include the IRS, FDA, USDA, FEMA, FAA and the Dept of Education – to name just a few. Medicare and Medicaid are next on the chopping block – despite Trump’s campaign promise never to touch these programs.

In addition, DOGE personnel are violating the security requirements we have had in place for decades. None of these individuals, including Elon Musk, has qualified for even minimum security clearance yet they have already been privy to highly classified documents. Also they have not completed required disclosure forms to identify possible conflicts of interest. i.e Musk’s $22 billion SpaceX contract with NASA.

My question is – 10 years from now, what will you tell your grandchildren about what happened in 2025? Did our Constitution survive Trump? …thanks to a strong Legislative and Judicial branch which triumphed and protected our democracy as our founding fathers had predicted. I am sorry to report many Americans are not feeling quite so hopeful. Please find the courage to do the right thing.
