Unbelievable is the word that comes to mind every day since the Trump inauguration. He has switched sides on the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. He has even called an ally a dictator, he blatantly lied (again) saying that Ukraine started the war with Russia, he has alienated our European allies. Heaven forbid that we might need them someday for protection. He has turned against a democratic ally to side with a monstrous dictator. This betrayal of an ally will forever damage US relations with Europe and is a disgrace, and shameful outcome.

On the home front, things are not any better. He promised in the campaign, in case you have forgotten, that was just a few months ago, to “never” reduce Medicaid, but yesterday he endorsed a House spending plan that cuts Medicaid by $800 billion. He cannot even keep a promise for 24 hours. We have seen him assert control over multiple independent agencies created by Congress. I guess we will not need Senators Grassley and Ernst because Congress has no role anymore.

But the most alarming and despicable thing is declaring himself “king” after killing a highly successful NYC traffic control program without any notice. The White House released a depiction of him wearing a crown with the caption, “Trump on himself: Long live the King.” This is not the Democracy we have known for hundreds of years and certainly not the Democracy I want my kids and grandkids to inherit.
