Take advantage of Citizen Police Academy
I was delighted to read in the paper that the Police Department is going to offer the Citizen Police Academy again in March of this year. I attended it several years ago with a friend and we found it to be an excellent opportunity and experience.
In the ten week sessions you get a complete look at all the departments that work together to keep our community safe. You are able to ask questions and interact with the men and women who serve us selflessly twenty-four hours a day. You are able to take a tour of the fine facility that houses our police and fire departments, and even ride along with an officer on a night patrol to experience what it is like to keep the city safe when most of us are sleeping. On my ride along I was able to watch an arrest being made and to accompany the officer in charge to the county jail to deliver the suspect.
I strongly recommend that you consider accepting the invitation offered by our Police Department and see for yourself the fine policing we enjoy in Marshalltown. Remember to get in touch with Chief Chris Jones at 641-754-5758 or cjones@marshalltown-ia-gov and register before Feb. 28.
