President Donald Trump has corrupted the GOP like a hollowed out apple. As a person who is leaving one GOP state (North Carolina) for another (Iowa), I have seen the systematic destruction of the agricultural industry in both states through petty Mafia-style threats and psychotic daydreams about political annexation of neighboring nations Canada and Greenland.

Canada was (because it is over) actually a major importer of American products. We have lost that through threats by Trump that he will compel Canada to be usurped into a 51st state. Canada extends into the Arctic circle and is a bigger land mass than the USA. That is like stating that the USA should be one state. Canada is very happy being a member of the British Commonwealth. It does not need the USA. The same applies to Greenland, and as an American Dane I can second that rejection by Denmark, to which Greenland belongs.

Trump tactics caused moderate Senator Thom Tillis to withdraw from reelection which will result in the predicted 2026 election of popular former Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC). North Carolina has a Democratic Governor Josh Stein, as well as Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State and Superintendent of Public Instruction. The rural counties in NC may elect MAGA and control politics, but the cities are Democratic and so are the top offices.

Trump created an artificial economic crisis in Iowa with a bootless war against China, Mexico, Canada and Iran. The tariffs exist in Trump’s obsolete mind and aren’t reality. We never needed tariffs in a global economy. I thought MAGA wanted to eliminate endless foreign wars. Well, we have them because of your heil to Trump.

Iowa farmers will hopefully wake up before harvest this year and if the USA was British Parliament, we would have a vote of no confidence immediate election.

Iowa has elected officials who betray their constituents everyday with fealty to Trump. Randy Feenstra publishes laughable propaganda columns in the Times-Republican which congratulate him for a disastrous Big Beautiful Bill. Kim Reynolds is not seeking reelection because her goose is cooked. Joni Ernst ruined herself supporting the bill’s Medicare cuts with “we will all die.” As for Chuck Grassley, why do people in rural America vote for a 92-year-old man who doesn’t need the job and is a mouthpiece for Trump? He has pulled the fields from under the farmers for personal power grasping.
