Recognizing everyday acts of kindness
Too often, people are quick to complain and slow to praise. Today, I want to take a moment to highlight something I witnessed that deserves recognition.
On my way to work, I noticed a young woman walking along the sidewalk near a local auto dealer. She was wearing a coat and carrying a backpack, and I assumed she was heading toward a bus stop. Later, as I passed back through the area near the skate park, I saw her still walking. She looked tired and extremely cold, and I grew concerned.
At a nearby gas station, I noticed a police car parked. From what I could tell, the female officer inside was also observing the young woman. Moments later, the officer pulled around, made contact, and greeted her with kindness. The young woman ran to the car, and the officer offered her a ride.
I truly hope this young woman simply needed a ride and nothing more was going on. Either way, I want to express my sincere gratitude for what our officers do every day. It’s not always about pulling over speeders or making arrests–the small acts of compassion go a long way.
I also want to note that several other people mentioned seeing this officer pick the young woman up. It was noticed by more than just me, and it left an impression.
Stay safe, stay warm, and Dog Bless.
