Iowa cannot survive another government that we have been living with. Grassley still getting a paycheck for governing must be an easy job. Healthcare — let’s demand what they have!

Those responsible for meeting once a month with the resident council at IVH did not meet once and denied them more than $120 a month from their pension. How about free rent, better meals? Reynolds decreased food budget twice. The last filling, delicious meals were from the private company that Branstad hired then fired because it was costing him too much money.

The last good governor was Tom Vilsack. He opened up all the buildings. Veterans from everywhere filled the home. Many jobs were opened and filled. An employee in cahoots with Reynolds fired and put the fear of God in all the employees. Good nursing employees were fired and the only replacements were supervisors.

Nursing staff were suffering in a mentally and physically environment until they could get the IPERS that they had paid into. Reynolds has people believing she is giving joy and wages to the Mitchellville Prison women. They leave at 4:30 a.m. and don’t return until 8 p.m. They deserve pardons so they can get out and get a real job caring for the veterans as they have devoted their lives to them.

The Republicans have voted themselves enough money. When Mr. Dack was commandant, veterans were able to get a vehicle with a personal parking space. There are a lot of homeless vets at IVH finally getting a pension and giving up everything for the cost of living there. I would rather my taxes paid for their expenses than the millionaire farmer who shows off his expensive equipment.

Immigrants in Marshall County have made communities their home and have contributed greatly. Their children are learning at schools for their parents too. We need to appreciate their commitment and continue to welcome them in their quest for freedom. Marshalltown has grown from their contributions — good food, hard jobs (CNA, YWCA, carpenters, JBS, etc.) We all have been immigrants (except for the Native Americans) in our past. All they want is good jobs, freedom and education.
