Jeff Schneider changed my mind

By Robert Peterson 2 min read

On August 8th, on page 10 of the Times Republican there was a very informative and well written article by Jeff Schneider about a Data Center being considered for Marshalltown and their ramifications. He not only addressed Data Center's benefits to communities but also water usage by Data Centers. From my sources in the media I was led to be believe that Data Centers used more than copious amounts of water for cooling which led me to being really negative about them. He assuaged my concerns when he writes, "Modern data centers of any size can now be built with closed-loop cooling--the same water circulates continuously, the way coolant circulates in your car. We would never accept a high-water-usage center and none will ever proposed here, we do not have the water resources." That information completely reversed my thoughts about not having a data center in Marshalltown. I was adamantly opposed to Data Centers. Not so now. Please get the August 8th Times Republican and read Jeff Schneider's article on page 10. Data Centers are going to be built somewhere no matter what we do. The Golden Goose has handed Marshalltown a Golden opportunity. The MORATORIUM will very likely kill this Golden Goose.
