Before the Old Testament closed, God sent many Priests, Prophets and ordinary people to awaken the Israelites. Israel had been asleep for many centuries, refusing to keep their part of the Covenant. The book of Malachi only has four chapters: that message is for the unrepentant Jew, and for people today. God revealed Israel’s past sins and wanted them to return to their previous promise. Israel doesn’t realize at this point, that God will not continue to beat a dead horse. He has given them centuries to return to Him. Four hundred years will pass again as Jesus sits at the doorstep of Heaven, waiting for His time to enter our world. It was only fitting that the Jewish nation should have first chance at receiving Him. They had been rejecting God for centuries. When the last Prophet died, there was Heavenly Silence. After Jesus was born, Israel did not know what to do with this man; what are we going to do with the Messiah? My aunt was a simple woman, her greeting to me was always, “Jerry, do you know my Jesus?” Since her first time of asking me, I certainly have met Jesus. Not only hers but the Savior of all who ask for Him. Through the ages we have heard many preachers and prophets telling us the good news. The world cannot run away forever, each person has to decide when are we going to know the Messiah! Chapter two reveals where the Jews stood in Malachi’s time. In the last chapter, the day of doom is promised again. In light of that moment, the preacher is reminding them that world-time, as they know it, is not everlasting and there must be a choice made. Throughout the seven thousand years we have lived, each generation must choose the desire to re-enter Heaven. We have the choice of redemption; do we believe in Jesus’ work on the cross; are we willing to stake our future on that choice? If the answer is yes, Jesus is waiting for our response. “What will you do with Him?” Before the New Testament started, all people had to deal with was “What will you do with the Messiah?” Since that rejection, the Gentiles accepted Jesus and we have been telling the world of the goodness of God-do you believe? If so, what are you going to do with Him?
