Well, it seems that it’s all but certain Marshalltown is getting a data center. Nevermind that these “closed loop” systems use forever chemicals that have to be cleaned out every few years. Nevermind that our mayor says everyone should be on city water because its “safer” any ways (you know, so they can have another control over your basic necessities). Everything is for sale in this country. Our health, our peace of mind, our way of life, everything for the right price and its absolutely disgusting. There are virtually no federal regulations surrounding data centers currently so its the wild west. They are all racing to implement these centers before there are actual rules so of course the developers will tell you and sell you anything you want to hear. They’ll even fill your pockets as long as you promise to be good. Remember Erin Brockovich? Yes, THAT Erin Brockovich. She has dedicated her time to these centers and exposing the lies and their absolutely terrible effects. She even has a website with a quick search, highlighting the horrific details of their environments. Hundreds of thousands of people who live near these centers can’t be wrong but, again, when the dollar is mightier than the constituents who cares right? So to that end, I hope you all enjoy the new bike trails, art murals and other pet projects the council decided is worth the cost of our livelihood because whatever revenue it generates will not be used to better your life or lower your bills. Quite the opposite. Our only hope now is if the same folks who are building main street and the center street viaduct also build the center – maybe it’ll get finished after we’re all gone.
