Senior men behaving badly

I saw a pre-Halloween ghoul display at the Marshalltown library board meeting in October. An elderly man who refuses to realize he has minimal support on an issue reduced an elderly city-appointed woman to tears by yelling on camera at her and demanding her unwarranted resignation from the board. Why? Because he wanted her appointed position so that he could ensure a private publication be bought by the library. John Worden has long made a fool of himself picketing the library, telling lies on television and using a private retailer for an unauthorized petition, but this was the lowest ...

Supporting Gary Thompson

For what it’s worth, I’m supporting Gary Thompson for mayor. I like most of the ways he votes at the meetings.

Candidate suggestions

Having spent a dozen years as councilor then mayor, and, between city administrators, the temporary acting city administrator, I probably know more than most people do about the candidates and city staff. Mike Ladehoff has been the mayor pro temp, subbing for me often when my statewide civil trial practice made me miss meetings. His meetings are shorter and people certainly find him more approachable than me. Employed at Emerson’s nuclear division, he is smart, organized and hard-working. He is married with successful children, a homeowner, a race enthusiast, and one of the most ...

An update on Mustaine’s Towing & Recovery

Hello All, For the past 18 years, I have served Central Iowa and Jasper, Marshall, Story and Tama Counties, providing all your towing and roadside needs. It has been a true joy and irreplaceable experience. As many already know, I was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2014. I have undergone three different treatments. Thankfully, all of the previous treatments were minimally disruptive to both me and my business. Starting next month, I will begin a new treatment that will require me to close my business and suspend services. My doctors and care team have advised that I should expect a ...

Supporting Scott McLain for city council

Fellow Marshalltonians, I have never had someone running for a city position that I feel strongly enough about to express my hopes that he wins his race. Scott McLain is my next-door neighbor, and I have learned so much about him. He is a Veteran and works as a leader in the Department of Transportation. He is a great contributor to our community by helping many people both young and old. I am one of the old ones, and he has been there for me a lot. I think you should all get to know him and there is no better way than to elect him to the city council and watch him help our city!

Ladehoff, Cahill and Schneider get Carters’ votes

Mike Ladehoff, Jeff Schneider, and Sue Cahill are the best candidates for the contested Council positions if you want this community to be even better than it is today. Those three people will help us improve with better roads and other city infrastructure, improve with more housing, retail, restaurant and industry growth, and improve with additional recreational amenities. The past voting record of Cahill, Ladehoff and Schneider clearly tells the positive impact these 3 have made and can continue to make in their City Council positions. They understand that investing in our community ...
