March 17-23 is Ag Week, which is a time to recognize contributions of agriculture to all of our daily lives. Farmers are now beginning this year’s planting season. Planting is time sensitive, resulting in long days and increased risk of accidents. Please have patience when encountering the large, slow-moving equipment and perhaps offer a prayerful thought for the farmers who are at the start of the value chain producing the food on your table, the fiber in your clothing and shelter, and the fuel in your vehicle.
Thank you for detailed coverage of the Feb. 27 Marshalltown Public Library board meeting.
Prior to that meeting, in an open Letter to the Editor dated Feb. 25, addressed to the MPL board members, I asked one of them (T. Gaffney, J. Lindholm, M. Lyons, R Morrison, A. Beek, E Hall, K. Pink) to add an item to the Feb. 27 meeting agenda regarding a proposed compromise that would both save face for the library admin. and enable library patrons equal access to The Epoch Times newspaper and The American Rifleman magazine, which has been requested over a period of 17 months. What tax ramifications does this have for our ...
If there was any question regarding the power that librarians wield in the censorship arena, the recent decision by the Marshalltown Public Library, by refusing to subscribe to the requested Epoch Times newspaper and National Rifleman magazine, should prove the significance of their underestimated influence.
The arrogance shown by the library representative declaring they were “beating a dead horse” by further discussing the matter, reveals volumes about the ideology that has penetrated the MPL. It should go without saying that patrons have the right to read what appeals to them, ...
Iowa is overly dependent upon corn and livestock fed with corn. Overproduction of corn is depleting Iowa’s soil, and the chemicals used in its over-production have seriously compromised our water quality. When one looks at what this does to our environment and augments this information with the long term effects of overconsumption of corn fed meat and poultry on our citizenry, it becomes difficult for Congress to defend the subsidy and insurance programs used to prop up our corn producers. This is at least part of the reason the farm bill has not yet passed.
Iowa needs to diversify ...
