Garbage services

The recent articles in the TR from the city council meetings, concerning possible changes in garbage pickup services appear to make it more difficult for these hard-working people to do their job. I greatly appreciate the job they do, year-round in every weather condition. Provided the garbage is picked up by an authorized business and handled properly, why does the city council want to limit pickup to a packer truck? In the future, it sounds like the city council wants to dictate what day your garbage is picked up. It seems that the garbage hauling businesses already have a system that ...

Time gone by

“Where has the time gone?” People use this phrase all the time but I want to re-empathize it, “ It seems that nature has blasted many days past us, just zooming like a Roman Candle. Fzzz, whiz, bang. Fzz, whiz, bang. A whole month goes by in an instant. The holiday we were looking forward to, is now yesterday. But we still have time to give attention to the Holiest day in the World — the birthday of God’s Son. His redeeming nature is needed now, as the World slides into hatred and murder. The chaotic events of today were predicted long ago by the Prophet Daniel and the ...

Biden’s policies aren’t bringing relief

In a press briefing on November 20, 2023, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated “…, according to the American Farm Bureau, the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner fell this year.” While this fact, in itself, may be true, this is not the whole story. The American Farm Bureau did, in fact, report that the 2023 meal was down 4.5 percent from 2022; however, it was up 25 percent from 2019 and 15 percent higher than the same meal in 2021. The Farm Bureau went on to explain the 2023 decrease in cost was “more appropriately attributed to turkey supply.” Because there were ...

Kudos to St. Paul’s

Kudos to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for bringing wonderful concerts to Marshalltown. The music Saturday night by the Ames Chamber Artists was a fabulous way to celebrate the Christmas season. The acoustics of the 150-year-old sanctuary are amazing. Thank you, St. Paul’s, for giving us this enjoyable evening. Thank you, Ames Chamber Artists, for sharing quality music with Marshalltown.

The Pentagon is wasting our money

I am surprised that I have not seen a single person write an editorial point of view concerning the article printed in the TR, on Nov, 30, “THE PENTAGON JUST CAN’T PASS AN AUDIT. Congratulations to our T-R staff for printing this and us all aware as to how terribly corrupt our Pentagon is in spending our tax money. In the article that the TR wrote, “In its most recent audit, the Pentagon was able to account for just half of its $3.8 trillion in assets (including equipment, facilities, etc). That means $1.9 trillion is unaccounted for — more than the entire budget ‘Congress ...

Grady’s attack on Worden was unfair

It was unfortunate that Mr Grady went ‘off on a tangent’ recently in an unfair attack on Mr. Worden as well as brazenly mis-representing a well-known & respected globally-printed newspaper. Perhaps Mr. Grady should have taken Mr. Worden’s invitation personally by coming into the library recently to view many sample issues of both The Epoch Times & The American Rifleman; he would have found none of the ‘evangelizing’ he so adamantly propagandized. Also, it is certainly worth noting that none of the five people who helped examine The Epoch Times early on mentioned anything about ...
