Cedar Falls out of reach for MHS girls’ tennis team

CEDAR FALLS – Senior Rachel Faircloth had a hand in both Marshalltown wins as the Bobcat girls’ tennis team fell 9-2 to host Cedar Falls on Friday evening.

Faircloth posted a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, over Halle Benson. She then teamed up with Maggie Kelehan for a monstrous comeback in the No. 1 doubles match, prevailing 1-6, 6-4, (10-8) over Benson and Hannah Mallaro.

Kelehan was the only Bobcat singles player to win more than three games in Cedar Falls’ five straight-set victories.

Marshalltown’s No. 4 doubles tandem of Samantha Tocheri and Megan Riemenschneider put up the best fight, falling 6-2, 6-4 to Madison McCann and Lindsey Davis.

The lone junior varsity victory for the Bobcats in 11 matches went to Jenna Jaeckel and Keyana Vasquez.

Marshalltown remains on the road for its next match, a Central Iowa Conference dual Tuesday at Ames. The ‘Cats return home to entertain Mason City next Thursday to close out CIC North play.

Starting at $4.38/week.
