Cougars ground out 2nd straight win; STC now 5-0

ACKLEY – Levi Stockdale and Josh Balvanz propelled AGWSR’s rushing attack with a pair of touchdowns apiece, leading the Cougars to a 53-0 victory over BCLUW in Friday’s Class A District 4 football game.

Stockdale carried just 14 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns, while Balvanz had 12 carries for 72 yards and two TDs as AGWSR (2-3, 2-1) outgained the visiting Comets 390-79 in total offense.

Mason Eilderts added 63 rushing yards and Nathan Karsjens threw for 46 yards for the Cougars, who won their second straight. Tery Rummans returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown on one of three turnovers forced by AGWSR.

Brad Barkema finished 5-for-8 passing for 52 yards for the Comets (2-3, 1-2). Austin Willett had 22 yards receiving, while Blake Mann’s 23 rushing yards led BCLUW.

AGWSR hosts Denver on Friday night, while the Comets entertain Grundy Center.

South Tama 54,

South Hardin 0

ELDORA – Class 2A No. 3 South Tama dominated South Hardin from start to finish, improving to 5-0 overall with a 54-0 rout of the Tigers on Friday night.

Jerry Lowe ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries, and Clayton Rosenberger was 7-for-8 passing for 220 yards and two touchdowns in handing South Hardin (1-4, 0-2) its second straight shutout loss.

The Tigers were limited to just 46 yards of total offense.

Nine different receivers made catches for STC (5-0, 3-0). Colson Frakes had three receptions for 111 yards, including an 82-yard touchdown grab. Cody Kellogg made two grabs for 94 yards and a touchdown. Mitch Thede led the Trojan defense with eight tackles and a sack.

South Tama hosts Roland-Story in Class 2A District 6 action Friday night, while South Hardin entertains East Marshall in league play.

Denver 69, North Tama 13

TRAER – Denver ran for 339 yards and eight touchdowns en route to a 69-13 rout of North Tama in Friday’s Class A District 4 contest.

Izaak Shedenhelm led the Cyclones with 11 carries for 135 yards and two touchdowns, and Mitchel Siech had 74 yards and two scores. Sam Joerger added an 84-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for sixth-ranked Denver (4-1, 2-0).

Cael Kopriva threw for 96 yards and ran for 65 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead North Tama (0-5, 0-3). He also registered a team-high 5.5 tackles.

North Tama travels to face No. 9 Gladbrook-Reinbeck in Friday’s district pairing.
