Decorah drops STC in district football

DECORAH – Senior quarterback Clayton Rosenberger threw for two touchdowns and South Tama County returned a fumble and kickoff for scores, but the Trojan football team fell by seven points in a 40-33 defeat at Decorah (3-4, 2-3) in Class 3A District 3 play Friday night.

Rosenberger finished 14-for-22 with 196 yards and touchdown passes to Riley Davenport and Colton Vest.

Davenport finished with four catches for 96 yards, while Vest had two grabs for 35 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown.

The Trojans (3-4, 2-3) couldn’t get much going for any of their three main running backs. Junior Isaac Judge led the charge with six carries for 44 yards. Senior Kolbie Clark had six carries for 32 yards, as well as a kickoff return of 83 yards for a touchdown.

Nick Ryan picked up a loose ball and took it back for a 43-yard retrun as well to help the Trojans’ efforts.

In each of the four losses this season, the Trojans have lost by a just one score, including back-to-back losses in Weeks 2 and 3 (14-13 and 28-27). Friday night’s defeat of seven points was the largest margin of loss this season.

STC will seek for a rebound win against Waverly-Shell Rock (4-3, 3-2) at home this Friday night.
