Tiger women claim back-to-back games

A quick start in the opening quarter provided the Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team some early breathing room which led to a 74-41 victory over William Penn JV on Friday night at the Emerson Classic. All 10 Tigers scored in the win.

Freshman Loralei Siliga collected her first-career double-double, scoring 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds, both team highs. Sophomore Victoria Pothast and Estelle Eduardo each added 11 points while Alyssa Roth scored 10 points for her third-straight double-digit scoring effort.

MCC jumped out to an 8-0 lead, all by the hand of Eduardo who hit a pair of three-point shots and a layup to ignite the Tiger offense. MCC led by as many 14 in the first quarter after Claudia Morente’s three-ball gave the Tigers a 24-10 edge in the opening quarter.

William Penn brought the game within eight in the second quarter, but Siliga’s 10 points in the quarter warded off any chance of a comeback as MCC took a 38-23 lead into halftime.

Sophomore Barbara Araoz added seven points and eight rebounds for MCC. Freshman Kiana Weston came off the bench to add six points and five rebounds. Morente closed the night with eight points, three assists, and three rebounds.

The Tigers wrap up the Emerson Classic tonight at 5 p.m. at the Student Activity Center, facing Kansas City Kansas Community College.
