AMES — Maddux Richardson threw another personal best in the shot put as he led the Marshalltown boys’ track and field team to a 12th-place finish (22 points) at the 2017 Hi Covey Relays on Thursday.

Richarson threw for 57 feet, 5 1/2 inches to win the event, beating his old previous best of 56-9. He also took second in the discus with a throw of 145-8.

Richardson’s shot throw ranks as the sixth-farthest among all four classes, and the third-best in Class 3A.

Freshman Gabe Wyant had a standout night, finishing sixth in the long jump. Wyant cleared 19-11 1/2 to nab three team points for the Bobcats.

Some Bobcats will head down to the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake Stadium at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
