Bobcats’ Richardson to throw for Hawkeyes
Marshalltown’s Maddux Richardson announced Tuesday in a tweet that he was committing to the University of Iowa as a thrower for the Hawkeyes’ track and field team.
“DREAM COME TRUE. I am very humble and proud to announce I am committed to throw at the University of Iowa,” the tweet read.
Richardson was formerly committed to Iowa Western Community College to play football, but the change of heart comes during a standout senior season in the shot put ring.
Richardson currently sits No. 6 among all classes in the event with a season-best of 60 feet, 4 inches. He’s one of six throwers in the state to achieve the 60-plus-foot mark.
Most recently, Richardson won the CIML Iowa Conference title in the shot put with a throw of 53-7 1/2, and was second in the discus at 150-7.
The Bobcat senior will attempt to make a second-straight appearance at the state track and field meet May 18-20 when he heads to Ames for the district qualifying meet Thursday.
