MCC volleyball splits weekend triangular

The Marhsalltown Community College volleyball team hosted both the Grand View University junior varsity and Southeast Community College on Saturday, splitting the two games of the triangular.

The Tigers (18-10) took home a three-set victory over Grand View (25-19, 25-19, 25-23) while falling to Southeast in three, 25-11, 25-21, 25-22.

MCC was down to only seven healthy starters at the start of the day, and head coach Justin Hoskins said that fact made the team change up their approach to the weekend.

“We really had to change the way we played today,” Hoskins said. “Anytime you’re putting in new rotations and systems on the day of the match, it’s a little stressful. Nevertheless, the girls were able to learn on the fly, play clean volleyball, and found a way to win. Some of our girls were asked to contribute in new ways today and they did a great job of stepping up and getting the job done.”

The Tigers take the court next on Monday when they head to Southwestern Community College, a team MCC beat in a five-set thriller earlier this season. That game in Creston is set for a 7 p.m. first serve.
