NORFOLK, Neb. — The season came to a close on Wednesday night for the Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team in a 57-39 loss to Northeast Community College during the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI Division I tournament.

This was the second-straight loss to the Hawks for the Tigers, as they lost in the final regular season game by a 65-57 margin.

Things didn’t start badly for MCC (10-20), as it started off down just five points after the first quarter, but Northeast (24-4) outscored the Tigers 16-8 in the second to take a 32-19 lead into halftime.

Loralei Siliga finished strong in her final game for Marshalltown, as the sophomore recorded 20 points and seven rebounds in the loss. Claudia Morente was next in scoring with nine points, while the sophomore from Spain also recorded three rebounds and three assists in her final game in a Tiger uniform.

Jade Blackburn led the Hawks with 11 points off the bench, while Mykala Baylor chipped in 10 and Sierra Bell finished with eight.

With the season now at a close, Siliga and fellow sophomore Alyssa Roth finished first and third respectively in the ICCAC Division I in points per game with 17.7 and 13.1. Siliga also led in points scored with 513, followed by Roth with 394.
