SPORTS SHORTS: Judge to wrestle in War at West Gym

CEDAR FALLS — South Tama County senior Isaac Judge, fresh off becoming the first two-time individual state champion in Trojans history, will be wrestling in IAwrestle.com’s War at West Gym on Saturday.

Judge is one of 22 wrestlers from Iowa and around the country that will be competing at the University of Northern Iowa’s West Gym. Judge will be facing off with Michael Blockhus from New Hampton/Turkey Valley, who won the Class 2A 138-pound bracket for the third-straight year in last month’s state championships. Blockhus is a perfect 57-0 this season, but he is wrestling up two weight classes to face Judge, the back-to-back 2A champion at 152. This matchup will pit two Big 12 wrestling commits against each other, as Blockhus will be wrestling at UNI next season and Judge at Iowa State.

Matches will start at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the West Gym with doors opening at 5 p.m.

ISU’s Kennedy-Hopoate to transfer

AMES — The Iowa State women’s basketball program and junior forward Bride Kennedy-Hopoate have mutually agree to part ways and she will no longer continue to be a member of the team, head coach Bill Fennelly announced Monday.

The mutual decision was made following end-of-season meetings.

“Bride will no longer be a part of the Iowa State basketball program,” Fennelly said. “She plans to seek a transfer and we wish her nothing but the best.”

Kennedy-Hopoate started in 10 of 21 games this season, averaging 6.7 points and 4.2 rebounds in 17 minutes per game during her junior campaign. The Cyclones ended at 14-17 this season.
