US to host World Cup wrestling
IOWA CITY — United World Wrestling has approved a revised schedule for the 2018 Freestyle World Cup, which will be hosted by the University of Iowa today and Sunday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
With Iran and Russia not in the field and Mongolia and India added to the event, a number of changes have been made to the schedule.
The two-day tournament is broken down into three pool-play sessions in addition to the medal round. Every team will compete during each session, starting at 10 a.m. today.
The new schedule has the United States in Pool A against the nations of Japan, Georgia and India. Pool B consists of Azerbaijan, Cuba, Kazakhstan and Mongolia.
Today, the USA will face India at 10 a.m. and Japan at 2:30 p.m., and then will battle on Sunday against Georgia at 10 a.m. to complete pool play.
Placewinner duals begin Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and close with the 4 p.m. championship.
