The Marshalltown girls’ soccer team suffered its ninth defeat in as many tries, falling by a score of 2-0 to Class 3A No. 12 Johnston on Thursday night at Leonard Cole Field.

The visiting Dragons (3-3) went ahead 1-0 just before halftime as Sophie Maras scored on an assist from Ashley Faber with 3 minutes, 57 seconds, remaining before intermission. Johnston tacked on another goal in the second half to salt away the win.

Marshalltown goalkeeper Victoria Johnson remained a stalwart in net, making 16 saves, but the Bobcats still dropped to 0-9 this season.

“Victoria continues to keep us in games,” said MHS head coach Stacy Galema. “Practically every opposing coach has spoken very highly of her following each game. She deserves all of the high praise.

The Bobcats visit No. 6 Dowling Catholic tonight.
