Reeder leads MHS boys at CIML Iowa

Tyler Reeder

MASON CITY — A year after Maddux Richardson brought the Bobcats back to the top of a conference field event, Tyler Reeder has returned Marshalltown to the front of the field on the track.

Reeder claimed first place in the 110-meter high hurdles on Friday at the CIML Iowa Conference boys track and field meet, giving the Bobcats their first championship in a running event since 2012.

Reeder won the race in a time of 15.64 seconds while teammate Giorgio Diiorio placed fourth in 16.31, helping Marshalltown claim fourth place in the final team standings. Reeder and Diiorio also teamed up to help the Bobcats’ shuttle hurdle relay squad score second place, joining Dylan Eygabroad and Ryan Huffman for a combined time of 1:01.34 in the only silver medal performance on the night for MHS.

Reeder’s individual track championship is the first for Marshalltown on the track since Tad Steffensen won the 100 and 200 in 2012.

Huffman cleared 5 feet, 6 inches, to place third in the high jump, while Luke Appel got over 5-4 to collect fifth-place points. Bennett O’Hare gave chase for third place in the 800 (2:01.49), while a pair of Bobcat relays collected bronze as well. Braden Bethke, Josh Melde, Huffman and Jonathan Hernandez notched third place in the 4×200 (1:32.47), while O’Hare, Devonte Dean, Gabe Wyant and Wyatt Himes combined on a time of 3:35.97 for third in the 4×400.

Bethke brought in points for finishing fourth in the 100 (11.46), while the distance medley relay quartet of Alex Rockingham, Noah DeVenney, Brian Trowbridge and Conner Beaty scored fourth in 3:59.70.

Marshalltown makes its way to Linn-Mar High School in Marion on Thursday for the state-qualifying meet.
