Mustangs edged out by E-B-F, 26-12

LE GRAND — The East Marshall football team fought back to within two points after falling behind by two touchdowns, only to see Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont finish off the Mustangs in Friday’s season opener.

Trey Moore threw a pair of first-quarter touchdown passes and scored a backbreaking touchdown run in the fourth quarter as the Rockets got past East Marshall 26-12.

Noah Bandstra buoyed the Mustangs with 164 yards rushing and both of the team’s touchdowns in the third quarter, but that was all East Marshall could muster in the loss.

Moore connected with Wyatt Klyn for a 20-yard scoring strike and then hit Ethan Olivas for a 56-yard touchdown as E-B-F took a 14-0 lead through one period of play.

Bandstra dashed in from 45 and 1 yards in the third quarter, but a blocked extra-point kick and a failed two-point try put the Mustangs behind 14-12.

East Marshall’s comeback was stunted when Olivas made a 40-yard field goal to open the scoring in the fourth quarter, and then Moore hit paydirt from 2 yards out. A safety provided the final points for E-B-F.

Kamren Hoskins had three receptions for 5 yards as East Marshall was held to 1 yard passing.

Bandstra led East Marshall with 10 solo and six assisted tackles, while Ryley Overton had four solo stops and four assists.

Tayte Nauman and Eric Ommen both had fumble recoveries for the Mustangs, who host BCLUW (0-1) next Friday night.
