West Marshall fights past Norsemen

STORY CITY — The Class 2A No. 10 West Marshall football team opened up 2A District 7 play with a 34-19 win over Roland-Story on the road on Friday night.

Cameron Bannister tossed four touchdown passes for the Trojans (4-1, 1-0) while going 11-for-16 for 234 yards passing. Joe Halverson caught three of those passes for 88 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown reception, and Chase Burr had two catches for 80 yards, one a 60-yard touchdown and one a 20-yard touchdown.

Burr also chipped in an 86-yard punt return touchdown for the first score against the Norsemen (2-3, 0-1) and he was the leading rusher with 61 yards on 10 carries.

Halverson was again the top tackler for West Marshall with 13 takedowns and sack, while Burr had nine tackles and Brian Morrison had two sacks. Bannister also picked off Roland-Story quarterback Drake Day.

The Trojans face Vinton-Shellsburg next week in State Center.
