MHS boys bowlers move to 2-0, girls suffer 1st loss

NEWTON — The Marshalltown boys bowling team earned its second victory of the season with a 2,913-2,765 win over Newton on Monday at Cardinal Lanes.

Kamrin Chizek led the Bobcats (2-0) with a two-game series score of 425, while Ray Wiegand had a 390, Lucas Kramer had a 385 and Sage Keahna shot a 376 to round out the counting scores.

In the Baker games, Marshalltown had a 214, 177, 179, 213, 200 for a total of 983.

The Bobcat girls took their first loss of the season at the hands of the Cardinals by less than 100 pins, 2,202-2,132.

Emily Diggins had a two-game series high of 316 for the MHS girls, followed by Ashly Wiegand with a 310, Kylee Witt with a 300 and Sydney Dannen with a 290 for the counting scores.

In the Baker games, the Bobcats had a 139, 117, 123, 167 and a 113 for a score of a 659. The girls led by nine pins after the individual rounds but lost the Bakers 738-659, leading to the 70-point defeat.

Both teams will be back in action today for their home opener, where the Bobcats will take on Des Moines North at Wayward Social, starting at 3:45 p.m.
