First-team all-state for Bobcats’ Wiegand
Marshalltown senior bowler Ray Wiegand was named to the Iowa High School Bowling Coaches Association Class 3A All-State first team for the second-straight year.
Wiegand was the top qualifier for the Iowa High School State Bowling Tournament by winning the district meet with a series score of 558. He was third in 3A in series average on the year with a 444.5, and he had the second-highest individual series bowled this season with his 558.
Joining Wiegand on the all-state teams were two other Bobcats, as freshman Demitri Ferneau and junior Lucas Kramer were both named to the second team.
Ferneau, who earned his first All-State honor of his career, was the individual champion at the CIML Iowa Conference meet, and he was seventh in 3A in average series with a 439.
Kramer, who earned his second-straight second-team honor, was 11th in average series in 3A with a 430.9, and his high series of 531 was second on the team.
Wiegand, Ferneau and Kramer were all named to the 3A West all-district first team, and also earning that honor was senior Kamrin Chizek, who placed sixth individually at the state meet.
Rounding out the all-district honors was head coach DJ Wilder, who was named the 3A West District Coach of the Year in his first season at the helm of MHS bowling.
