Panthers’ balance too much for Loyola

CHICAGO — The Northern Iowa women’s basketball team used a balanced attack to take down Loyola on its home court Friday night, knocking off the Ramblers 71-65 in a Missouri Valley Conference clash.

Karli Rucker compiled her third double-double of the season for UNI, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go with five assists. Mikaela Morgan scored a team-leading 14 points, Cynthia Wolf added 13, Taylor Hagen had 11 and Nicole Kroeger finished with 10 more for the Panthers (14-8, 7-3).

Janae Gonzales scored a game-high 20 points to pace the Ramblers (10-11, 4-6), who trailed by as many as 19 in the fourth quarter before fighting all the way back to within the final margin of six.

Abby O’Connor added 15 points and 11 rebounds for Loyola, and Ellie Rice chipped in 11 points.

Northern Iowa continues its weekend road swing with Sunday’s 11 a.m. game against Valparaiso.
