Rhine helps Bulldogs blow past Ramblers

CHICAGO — Four players scored in double figures and the Drake women’s basketball team trampled Loyola 83-55 in Sunday’s Missouri Valley Conference clash inside Gentile Arena.

Sara Rhine led the Bulldogs (18-5, 10-1) with 23 points, eight rebounds and four steals in just 24 minutes of playing time. Becca Hittner added 19 points and seven assists, Maddy Dean netted 11 points and Nicole Miller chipped in 10 off the bench in the wire-to-wire win.

Rhine didn’t miss a shot, going 8-for-8 from the floor, 3-for-3 from 3-point range and 4-of-4 at the free-throw line.

Drake led by as many as 38 points in the second half before getting outscored 20-10 in the fourth quarter by the host Ramblers (10-12, 4-7).

Janae Gonzales led Loyola with 18 points, while Abby O’Connor and Allison Day added 10 apiece. The Ramblers shot just 4-for-21 from 3-point range.

Drake starts a season-long three-game homestand on Friday night when the Bulldogs host Northern Iowa. The in-state showdown tips off at 6 p.m. at the Knapp Center.
