Smith named first-team all-CIML Iowa

Second all-conference accolade for Marshalltown senior guard

The all-conference boys basketball teams for the CIML Iowa Conference have been announced and Marshalltown senior Jacob Smith was voted to the first team for the first time in his career.

Smith was the top scorer in the CIML Iowa this season with 156 points in 10 conference games. He was second in scoring average with 15.6 points per game and he was third in 3-pointers made with 22, shooting 40 percent from behind the arc in league games.

Smith, a 6-foot guard, was third in the conference in total rebounds with 59 and he was fifth in steals with 14 in 10 conference games.

Smith also received honorable mention as a junior, making this his second all-conference award.

Joining Smith on the first team were Trayvon Williams and Evan Obia from West Des Moines Valley, Sam Glenn from Southeast Polk, Jordan Jackson from Fort Dodge and Dylan Jones and Noah Hart from Waukee, who were all unanimous selections.

The Bobcats had no second-team selections, but seniors Sunday Arou and Bennett O’Hare and freshman Armonniey Thomas were named as honorable mentions. It’s the first all-conference selection for all three.

Thomas was the only freshman honored among all three teams. He averaged 11.3 points per conference game and had 35 steals in league play.

Arou contributed 8.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, and O’Hare had 3.4 points and 3.9 assists per game in conference action.
