SPORTS SHORTS: Trojan boys take sixth in Cub Relays

NEVADA — The West Marshall boys track and field team finished sixth out of eight teams at the Nevada Cub Relays on Tuesday with 230 team points.

The Trojans took first in two relays. The 4×200-meter relay team of Josh Larsen, Brian Morrison, Colby McMorran and Cameron Bannister won with a time of 1 minute, 36.77 seconds, and the sprint medley relay team of Larsen, Morrison, Bannister and Jake Tollefson was victorious after crossing the line in 1:39.34.

Brayden Evertsen took second in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, and Tollefson was second in the long jump at 19-5 1/2. The 4×400 relay team of Bannister, Morrison, Cael Kline and Peyton Pope was second in a time of 3:42.67.

Mustang boys third at home opener

LE GRAND — The East Marshall boys track and field team took third place at its home Early Bird Meet on Tuesday with 97.4 points, while Gladbrook-Reinbeck finished last out of six teams with 26.2 points.

Cade Curphy took home two golds for the Mustangs, as he was first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 12.16 seconds, and first in the 3,200 in 11:09.17.

Cam Hungerford made it a sweep in the distance races for East Marshall by winning the 1,600 in 5:06.40, and Hunter Vilez took first in the discus with a throw of 132 feet, 9 inches.

Austin Elliott was third in both the 100 and 200 for the Mustangs, Seth Korbin took third in the long jump and the 4×800 relay of Hungerford, Kordell Negrete, Holden Lane and Trevor Taul and the sprint medley relay of Seth, Elliott, Isaac Plaehn and Gage Hulin both finished in second.

Ridge Van Daele had the best individual finish for the Rebels by taking fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:25.55, and Paul Brockett was fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:30.28.

The 4×800 relay team of Colby Hauser, Sam Schildroth, Braydon Rohrer and Brockett were fourth with a time of 10:00.15.
