CLASS 4A

North Scott 50, Marion 49

The Lancers beat the Indians 50-42 in overtime two years ago for their first state title in program history, and they won the rematch on Saturday thanks to a Brooke Corson 3-pointer with 39 seconds remaining. Samantha Scott was second for the Lancers with nine points, while Corson and Presley Case both had six. Boffeli was the 4A all-tournament team captain, and she was joined by teammate Chloe Engelkes.

CLASS 2A

Treynor 48, Grundy Center 30

The Grundy Center girls basketball team hadn’t suffered a loss all season and rolled into the Class 2A state championship with a 24-0 record, but the Spartans’ only blemish would come on Saturday night in the form of a 48-30 loss to Treynor in the title game.

The Cardinals (26-1) won their first state title since 1994 while Grundy Center (24-1) came up a game short of a state championship for a second-straight season.

The Spartans entered the fourth quarter down 31-23, but a basket by Brooke Flater made it a six-point Treynor advantage with 6:15 remaining. The Cardinals would finish the game on a 17-5 run to run away and hide from Grundy Center.

Konnor Sudmann had 17 points and six rebounds to lead Treynor, and she was named the 2A all-tournament team captain. Mandy Stogdill and Kayla Chapman each contributed nine points for the Cardinals, and Chapman was also named to the all-tournament team.

Grundy Center leading scorer Hailey Wallis struggled in her final game for the Spartans, going 2-for-10 from the floor for seven points after dropping 25 in the state semifinals against defending-champion Cascade. Wallis was still named to the all-tournament team.
