Marshalltown girls track fifth at Tiger Invitational

CEDAR FALLS — The Marshalltown girls track and field team came in fifth in the Cedar Falls Tiger Invitational on Tuesday with 65 points, just two points away from tying for third.

Freshman Phoebe Hermanson cotinued to shine in the distance races, winning the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 26.48 seconds, and taking second in the 1,500 with a season-best 5:02.47. Makenna Ainsworth also had a good run in the 1,500 to place fifth in 5:41.05.

Mia Barajas turned in a strong performance in the 800 by placing second with a 2:32.68, and Erica Johnson was fourth in the 100 hurdles with a season-best 17.70.

In the field events, Alyvia Chadderdon was third in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 7 inches, to tie her season best, and Gabby Himes matched her season best height in the high jump with a 4-8 to tie for fourth.

The best relay result came in the shuttle hurdle, where the team of Johnson, Himes, Valeria Becerra and Mia Rasmusson were third with a time of 1:14.87. The 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams all finished in fourth place, while the 4×100, sprint medley and distance medley teams were all fifth.
