GARWIN — The GMG volleyball team scored a 3-0 sweep of Meskwaki in its Iowa Star Conference South Division opener, beating the Warriors 26-24, 25-12, 26-24 on Thursday night for its first win of the season.

The Wolverines (1-8, 1-0) got revenge on Meskwaki (1-14, 0-2) after falling to the Warriors 2-1 in GMG’s home tournament last weekend.

Jenna Yilek led GMG with 11 kills on the night while serving 7-for-11 with three aces. Emily Vaughn had three kills and three aces, while Jordan Yilek piled up 15 assists to go with 11-for-15 serving with three aces. Moriah Groth led the defense with 11 digs and Desirae Baldazo had three more.

The Wolverines totaled 14 aces to help offset their 28 service errors in the win.

Next up for GMG is Saturday’s Gladbrook-Reinbeck Tournament in Reinbeck.
