Hermanson finishes in 4th at Valley

WEST DES MOINES — The Marshalltown boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed at the Tom Karpen Invitational on Tuesday at Valley Southwoods Freshman High School.

In the girls’ race, Phoebe Hermanson led Marshalltown with a fourth-place finish with a time of 21 minutes, 34 seconds.

Rachel Smith finished in 40th place where she ran a time of 24:38, while Odaly Flores ran 24:57 to finish in 41st place. Right behind her was Makenna Ainsworth who ran 24:58 and Kaci Uhde who ran 25:02 to finish in 43rd and 44th place, respectively.

Rounding out the Bobcats’ top-7 was Aida Almanza, who ran 25:18 to finish in 47th place, and Jade Tejada, who ran 25:38 to finish in 48th.

As a team the Bobcat girls finished in fifth place overall with a score of 138 points.

The Marshalltown boys finished in 11th place overall with a team score of 302 points.

Conner Smith led the Bobcats with a 28th place finish where he ran a time of 18:22.

Ethan Benscoter finished in 74th place overall with a time of 20:09 and Freddy Ross ran 20:14 to finish in 76th place, respectively.

Closing out the top-5 was Anthoneih Kopsa who finished in 84th place with a time of 20:45 and Jason Strand who finished in 86th place with a time of 20:52.

The Bobcats will return to action on Saturday at the Central College Invite in Pella.
