SPORTS SHORTS: East Marshall drops nailbiter to BGM

LE GRAND — East Marshall dropped its third game in a row to BGM in a five set loss on Thursday night.

The Mustangs almost staged a comeback after trailing two sets but BGM (3-8) came out on top 25-14, 25-21, 19-25, 15-25, 15-11.

Leading East Marshall (2-9) in kills was Clare Veren who totaled 13 kills. Zoeie Fontanini led with team with 29 digs while Noelia Aguilera posted 16 assists.

Notably, starting outside hitter Rylee Freese missed the game due to an injury in pre-game warm ups.

East Marshall will host the Mustangs tournament on Sept. 14 which where they will face Vinton-Shellsburg, Des Moines Christian and Iowa Valley.

State shooting at Marshall Gun Club

The Marshall Gun Club is hosting the Iowa Black Powder Federation’s 2019 State Shotgun Shoot on Sept. 20-22.

There will be medallions awarded for the top-three finishers in each of 12 competitions. The judgment of scorers and the range officer are final on hits and misses.

Costs will include registration fees of $10 for IBPF members and $20 for non-members, as well as entry fees for each match.

Shooting hours on Friday and Saturday are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Saturday night shooting takes place after dark only.
