STATE CENTER — The Class 2A No. 6 Grundy Center volleyball team held off West Marshall in an NICL West Division sweep on Tuesday night, 25-13, 25-18, 27-25.

West Marshall (3-14, 0-3) nearly forced a fourth set, leading 24-23, but couldn’t finish off the Spartans (18-2, 3-0) in Game 3.

Teresa Disney led West Marshall with seven kills and four blocks to go with two service aces and three digs. Renae Schaper had six kills while Attiyah Lazard had four kills and two blocks. Hana Hohnstein finished with 11 assists while going 9-for-9 serving with an ace as well as 11 digs, and Grace de Neui had seven assists, four digs and served 8-for-8.

Avery Randall served 10-for-10 and tallied nine digs, while Morgan Cripps finished with eight digs. Sarah Pierce contributed two kills and two blocks.

East Marshall swept by AGWSR, 3-0

LE GRAND — The AGWSR volleyball team took down East Marshall in a three-set NICL West Division sweep here Tuesday night, 25-14, 25-10, 25-14.

The defensive-minded Mustangs (2-15, 0-3) were led by Zoeie Fontanini’s 16 digs. J.J. Westendorf had nine digs and Rylee Freese added eight more.

Clare Veren led East Marshall with four kills, Noelia Aguilera had five assists, and Faith Bandstra added three assists. Emma Pfantz tallied three service aces and Aguilera had two more against the Cougars (10-8, 2-1).
