Bobcats drop times but fall to Mason City

T-R PHOTO BY ANDREW ABADIE - Marshalltown’s Klaudia Hernandez competes in the 200-yard freestyle race during Tuesday’s CIML Iowa Conference swimming and diving dual against Mason City at Marshalltown High School. Hernandez finished fourth in the event in a time of 2 minutes, 19.27 seconds.

The Marshalltown girls swimming and diving team lost a home CIML Iowa Conference dual meet to Mason City on Tuesday, 112-71.

“Finally a week with just one meet,” head coach Angie Nelson said. “We’ve been waiting for this. I am so excited to see the progress these girls are making and how much we will continue to see from week to week here on out. The first half of season is a grueling pace, meet after meet. It’s hard to improve from a Tuesday to a Thursday, but now, just wait we’re going to see better and more of it.”

The Bobcats won one event with Hannah Taylor winning the diving by posting a season-high of 261.90 points.

Despite the lone win, Marshalltown had seven total second place finished with four coming from individual events. Hannah Case swam a time of 3:00.48 for second place in the 200-yard IM. Samantha Propp swam 1:15.05 to take second place in the 100-yard backstroke while CeCe Waltermire placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:22.24. Cori Jorgenson swam 27.67 in the 50-yard freestyle for a second-place finish.

In the relays, MHS had three second-place finishes. The Bobcats’ 200-yard medley relay team swam 2:18.57 to take second place and the 200-yard freestyle relay finished in second place with a time of 1:52.91. Marshalltown also placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:16.48.
