SPORTS SHORTS: Valley splashes past Bobcats, 95-81

WEST DES MOINES — The Marshalltown girls swimming and diving team lost in a dual meet to West Des Moines Valley, 95-81, on Tuesday night.

The Bobcats placed second in two events with Cori Jorgenson swimming 27.86 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle. Mia Rasmusson also took second in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 200.05 points.

Marshalltown also had two third-place finishes. CeCe Waltermire swam 1:04.02 in the 100 freestyle for her third place finish. The Bobcat quartet of Jorgenson, Waltermire, Taylor Jones and Klaudia Hernandez placed third in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:52.08.

The Bobcats trailed 86-32 with four events left before Valley elected to swim the rest as exhibition.

Marshalltown will host the Bobcat Diving Invite on Saturday at the Marshalltown YMCA/YWCA starting a 10 a.m.

North Tama notches division title again

TRAER — The North Tama volleyball team clinched the Iowa Star Conference South Division championship for the third year in a row after sweeping Collins-Maxwell on Monday night.

The Redhawks (22-5, 5-0) won 25-11, 25-18, 25-11.

Katie Kopriva recorded 17 kills, 10 digs and six aces in the win. Takoa Kopriva totaled 21 digs while Isabel Sierra posted 32 assists.

Abby DeBoef added 14 kills, while Grace Thorsen served 14-for-15 with four aces.
