Iowa to retire Gustafson’s jersey number in January

IOWA CITY — The University of Iowa athletic department will retire former women’s basketball player Megan Gustafson’s No. 10 when the Hawkeyes host Michigan State on Jan. 26, 2020, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Gustafson ended her career as the most decorated player in Hawkeye history. She owns 16 school records, including career marks for points (2,804) and rebounds (1,460).

The Port Wing, Wis., native as the first Big Ten Conference player to be named the consensus National Player of the Year (Associated Press, ESPN, Naismith, USBWA). Gustafson scored 1,001 points during her senior year at Iowa, becoming just the fourth NCAA Division I woman to eclipse 1,000 points in a single season.

Gustafson will become just the second Hawkeye women’s basketball player to have her number retired. Iowa retired Michelle Edwards’ No. 30 in 1988.
