Tigers’ homestand off to a rough start

The Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team lost at home for the second time in three days, falling 57-44 to the William Penn junior varsity on Tuesday night at the Student Activity Center.

The visiting Statesmen shot 58 percent from the field (18-for-31) and dominated the the glass, outrebounding MCC 43-25.

The Tigers (5-14) shot just 31.6 percent from the floor, hindered by a 6-for-26 performance from beyond the 3-point arc, and committed 16 turnovers in their fourth-straight loss.

Eva Carballo led MCC with nine points, Dana Stokes contributed seven points off the bench, while Lotte van Malsen, Laurin Lyons, Nuria Castillo and Eva Zaragoza finished with six points apiece. Zaragoza led the Tigers with six rebounds.

The MCC women play their third of seven-straight home games on Saturday, hosting Iowa Central CC at 1 p.m.
