Races returning to Speedway on Friday

Races will return to the Marshalltown Speedway on Friday.

Promoter Toby Kruse said the opening of the races is two months late due to the COVID-19 pandemic and he is anxious to begin.

“It is something people are passionate about,” he said. “Myself, I am a big race fan. I am like the rest of them and ready to go.”

In previous years, Kruse said about 400 to 500 people would sit in the grandstands. He is not sure what to expect as far as attendance, but is expecting 105 to 110 competitors to tear up the track. There are a multitude of races with 24 drivers in each race.

“The track has a tremendous impact on Marshalltown,” Kruse said. “Hotels, gas stations, restaurants. We get people from at least 20 different states that converge on Marshalltown at some point of time for the races.”

The gate will open at 5:15 p.m. on Friday and racing will begin at 7:30 p.m.

“I am excited to get back to business and see the laps around the racetrack,” Kruse said. “It’s exciting.”
