Bobcats pick up first wins at DM East

DES MOINES — Marshalltown coach Derek Wrage is finally on the board as the Bobcats’ head man.

The Bobcats swept Des Moines East (4-11) 7-4 and 4-3 Wednesday night on the road, relying on a batting hot streak and solid pitching to move to 2-12 on the season.

In the first game of the evening, Marshalltown collected 14 hits — four from Joe Harris, three from Tyler Dunham, two from Jacob Van Pelt and one each from Nick Rebik, Patrick Landeros, Bennett Hageman, Ethan Wertzberger and Tyne Weeden. Harris had two doubles and two RBIs while pitching a complete game and giving up four runs (one earned) on seven hits and 10 strikeouts.

In the second contest, Carson Johnson got the start on the mound. He went two innings and gave up one run. In a tight game, Van Pelt went five innings in relief and got the win, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits and four strikeouts.

The Bobcat bats were hot again with 12 hits on the books — two from Harris, Rebik, Landeros, Kabba Pins and Hageman and one apiece from Weeden and Justice Richardson. Harris, Hageman, Pins, Landeros and Gabe Wyant stole bases for the Bobcats, and Harris capped off his productive day with a triple.

The Bobcats host Roosevelt tonight at 5 and 7 p.m.
