MHS soccer players net academic all-state
The Marshalltown High School soccer teams’ spring seasons were lost to the coronavirus pandemic, but the Bobcats still earned some accolades to atone for the absence of soccer.
A total of 10 members of the MHS girls and boys soccer teams were honored on Friday as selections to the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association’s Academic All-State soccer teams.
The Bobcat boys, who were denied the opportunity to return to the state tournament after qualifying for the Class 3A tournament last season, had six academic all-state selections, while the MHS girls accounted for four more honorees.
On the boys’ side, Austin Shomo and Noah Hermanson were named first-team academic all-state, while Uriel Campos Padilla, Rene Hernandez Andrade and Max Gantz got second team honors. Zach Robson received honorable mention.
For the Bobcat girls, Avygail Smith and Tarryn Bell took first-team honors, Aida Almanza was a second-team selection, and Jade Tejada earned honorable mention.
