CHICAGO -- Nate Vance completed his sophomore season as a golfer at Loyola University Chicago with low scores and high marks.
Vance, a 2018 Marshalltown High School graduate, was one of three Loyola golfers named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced last week.
Vance, who helped the Bobcats win the Class 4A fall state golf title in 2017 as the meet medalist, was joined by junior teammates Tyler Anderson and Devin Johnson as honorees for their work in the classroom as well as on the golf course.
"I'm very proud of Tyler, Devin and Nate," said Loyola head coach Erik Hoops. "With it being such a good year on the golf course for us, having three All-America Scholars shows that they weren't just getting it done on the course, but in the classroom as well."
Vance shined in his sophomore season for the Ramblers, closing the campaign with a single-season program record 72.2 stroke average on his way to earning all-Missouri Valley Conference honors. Vance was a first-team MVC Scholar-Athlete selection who also turned in 11 rounds at par or below and collected four top-10 finishes. He topped out with a runner-up finish to help lead Loyola to the team title at Drake's Zach Johnson Invitational last fall at Glen Oaks Country Club in Des Moines. It was the Ramblers' first team victory since the 2014-15 season.
To be eligible for All-America Scholar status at the Division I level, a golfer must have a stroke-average under 76 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-poine average of 3.2 while participating in at least 40 percent of the team's competitive events. Vance, a finance major, saw action in all 18 rounds for the Ramblers.
