GC/G-R boys set the pace at Pine Lake Run

ELDORA — The Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys’ cross country team captured first place at South Hardin’s Pine Lake Run on Thursday at Pine Lake Country Club.

The Spartans scored just 44 points to hold off runner-up East Marshall, which racked up 50 points in the 10-team event. BCLUW came in sixth (169), West Marshall was seventh (175) and GMG took ninth (253).

West Marshall’s Nicolas Thompson was the individual champion, clocking in at 18 minutes, 4 seconds to score the title. GC/G-R’s Kenny Day claimed second (18:10), Paul Brockett was fourth (19:31), Soren Cleveland took seventh (19:37) and Brennen Sager netted 10th (19:54).

East Marshall was led by three top-10 finishers including Joseph Terrones in third (18:36), Kaleb Grant in fifth (19:32) and Hunter Hughlette in ninth (19:50). Cale Hungerford came in 15th to close out the Mustangs’ scoring.

One of two North Tama runners, Sam Snyder claimed 11th place in 20:04. BCLUW was led by Cayden McLeland in 29th place (21:33), while GMG’s top finisher was Austin Vaverka in 43rd (22:39).

On the girls’ side, West Marshall led the area teams with a fourth-place finish in the 13-team event. The Trojans had 108 points, East Marshall was sixth with 165 and Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck took seventh with 179.

North Tama sophomore Grace Lidgett led all local runners with a runner-up result, finishing in 21:40. Emelia Hauser placed sixth to lead West Marshall in 22:23, Taylor Stahl took seventh to lead GC/G-R in 22:50, while Mkenzie Robinson was 11th to pace East Marshall in 23:28.

Shye Johnson scored 22nd in 24:22 as Meskwaki’s lone runner. Emma Hoover was 36th in 25:26 to lead BCLUW’s entrants, and Angel Schewe scored 41st in 26:04 for GMG.
