PREP FOOTBALL: 10th-ranked Rebels withstand BGM, 20-6

BROOKLYN — Keagan Giesking ran for 212 yards and three touchdowns to lead 10th-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck to a 20-6 8-Man District 5 football victory on Saturday at BGM.

The Bears (2-1) got on the board first, thanks to a Shamus Miller 8-yard touchdown run midway through the opening period. BGM never reached paydirt again, however, as the Rebels (3-0) rallied with a touchdown in each remaining quarter.

Giesking found the end zone from 2, 57 and 49 yards away to lift Gladbrook-Reinbeck to the lead.

Giesking finished with 33 carries at an average of 6.4 yards per attempt. He also completed his only pass for 18 yards to tight end Trey Eggers. Tom Smith ran for 35 yards and was 1-for-1 passing for 6 yards, finding Drake Blakesley on his only attempt.

Blakelsley led the Rebel defense with 9.5 tackles, while Luke Riffey and Auston Wittgreve added seven stops each. Ethan Gienger got the game’s only turnover with his interception.

BGM quarterback Jacob Maurer was 18-for-26 passing for 129 yards while rushing 21 times for 101 yards.

HLV 42, GMG 12

GARWIN — The GMG football team was held to 198 yards of total offense in a 42-12 loss to HLV (1-2) in Saturday’s 8-Man District 5 showdown.

Owen Collins was the Wolverines’ leading rusher on the night, carrying the ball 11 times for 80 yards and both GMG touchdowns. Noah Ratliff added 31 yards on six tries, and Austin Vaverka contributed 30 yards on three carries.

GMG quarterback Kooper Gill was 5-for-16 passing for 27 yards and four interceptions.

Conner Murty led the Wolverine defense with a whopping 19 tackles, including 14 solo stops and two tackles for loss. Gill added 15 tackles.

GMG (0-3) goes on the road this Friday to face BGM in Brooklyn.
