Comets move on to regional semifinal

CONRAD — BCLUW is two games away from the Class 1A State Volleyball Tournament after a 3-1 victory over Lynnville-Sully Wednesday night.

The Comets (20-15) won set one 25-16 before falling 18-25 in set two, facing the prospect of a difficult test from the 12-8 Hawks.

But instead, BCLUW put its foot on the gas, winning sets three and four 25-12, 25-12 to coast to a comfortable win.

The Comets’ high-powered offense was clicking with 57 kills, led by 26 from Eden Wilson and 18 from Lizzie Garber. Garber contributed 15 assists as well, and Allison Engle led the team with 26 of the team’s 51.

BCLUW only contributed 2.5 blocks on defense (from Garber and Katie Hill), but the team recorded 61 total kills. Sydney Anderson led the team with 16, Emma Averill contributed 10 and Garber had nine.

Garber led the team with three aces — Averill and Engle had two each.

The Comets play Monday at 7 p.m. in Reinbeck against the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Rebels for a chance to reach the regional finals.
