REGIONAL VOLLEYBALL: Mustangs end season with loss to Colfax-Mingo

COLFAX — The East Marshall volleyball ended its season with a 7-18 record Monday night, falling to Colfax-Mingo (10-14) 3-1 in a Class 2A Regional 5 first-round game.

The host Tigerhawks prevailed 25-10, 20-25, 25-13, 25-14.

The Mustangs were led in offense by Kennedy Wheater and Devyn Crosser with four kills each as the team struggled to create consistent offense and recorded just 18 total kills. Noelia Aguilera led the squad with 12 assists.

Defensively, the Mustangs recorded 71 digs. J.J. Westendorf led the team with 17, while Camy Weeks and Jane Collum got 12 digs apiece. Crosser had the team’s only two blocks of the night.

Weeks and Collum paced the Mustangs in aces with four each, accounting for eight of the team’s 13.

The Tigerhawks move on to face No. 3 Dike-New Hartford on the road Wednesday night.

Nevada 3, West Marshall 0

NEVADA — The West Marshall volleyball team saw its season closed out by neighboring Nevada as the host Cubs swept the Trojans 25-13, 25-9, 25-11, in Monday’s Class 3A Region 3 quarterfinals.

Katy Reyerson led West Marshall (16-21) with five kills, while setters Reilly Jensen and Delaney Nichols finished with six assists each.

Avery Randall led the Trojan defense with 19 digs to go with the team’s only service ace. Halie Hohnstein, Sarah Pierce and Dresden Eldridge each had a block.

Nevada (21-15) advances to face No. 2 Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (25-2) in Wednesday’s regional semifinal match in Clarion.
